Book Block Original - Custom Printed Notebooks

Who doesn't love having something bespoke and one of a kind? Especially something as well used as a notebook. Book Block Original have made that an easy reality. They use a high quality printing process combined with great quality paper to create a notebook worthy of saving for a special occasion. We all have one of those notebooks right? Too special to use?

Book Block Original is part of the Monsieur Notebook family, using their high quality notebooks and paper and mixing it with your creativity. They had a successful run on Kickstarter last year to create their process for custom printed notebooks and was originally aimed at agencies and brands but they downscaled their process to allow illustrators, designers and stationery lovers to get a custom design for themselves without having to order high quantities. They even have a great artwork editor tool on their website making the designing process even simpler if you're not completely tech savvy! You can use their stock images to create something unique or go down the road I did and create something from scratch.

I created a simple but bold geometric pattern in my favourite colour combination, blue and white. I'm always obsessed with geometric prints, especially when it's combined with stationery. But I don't come across them as much as I'd like in notebooks, so when I got the opportunity to make my own I jumped on it. As simple as my design is I was interested to truly see how high quality their printing was. I've often found prints where the lines aren't super sharp and it ruins the whole thing. But Book Block Original really did surprise me with how nice the printing quality was. The lines were crisp and all of the shades of blue I used came out exactly how they were supposed to.

The finish of this A5 notebook is a really smooth satin/matte texture, it feels awesome in the hand but I feel like this finish will hold up to wear and tear over time. It has a solid construction and build quality, especially with glue binding which I always find to work best with A5 hardcover notebooks. They have several paper options available for the inside of your notebook. 90gsm Ivory paper available plain, ruled or with dot grid. Or a heavier 140gsm Cartridge paper for sketching.

Practically anything can be printed on a Book Block Original notebook, with options to pick the elastic and ribbon colours to match your design. Prices for a custom printed notebook start at £12/€16/$18 which is fairly reasonable for the ability to have one custom printed. I think it would make an amazing gift or even a nice treat for yourself!
